Tumbling Blocks

HI there. I decided to enter a second submission to the Blogger’s Quilt Festival at Amy’s Creative Side.  Mainly because it has a better story than my first submission.

Size: Approx. 36x 52

I was asked, by my daughter, to make a quilt for a co-worker who was going to have her second baby.  When I asked her what colors she said black and white.  My first reaction was, black and white for a baby quilt?  But that is what she wanted.  So, it took me awhile to choose a pattern but when I found this rhombus Tumbling Blocks pattern on a Missouri Star Quilt tutorial I knew this was the perfect pattern because the mom-to-be was a     math teacher!

This quilt was hard for me from the get-go for. Mainly because I think I had a bad attitude. I was still hung up on black and white for a baby! Fortunately, my daughter helped with the fabric selection and the placement.  It was easier than I thought to put together mainly because there were no Y-seams with this pattern. As a quilter, it did stretch my skills and the more I worked on it the more I came to enjoy it. Who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Lol. The backing is white with small black polka dots.  I then went on and made a receiving blanket with leftover material.  And, guess what?  The mom loved it and that is all that really matters, right? 🙂
